The Digital & Technology Committee represented by Advocacy Coordinator Mr. Joachim Dautais, participated in the UNESCO AI Ethics Readiness Assessment workshop held at the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT). The workshop provided valuable insights into Cambodia’s current progress and the challenges it faces in navigating the ethical and governance aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption.
Cambodia acknowledges UNESCO’s AI Ethics Recommendation but has yet to officially implement it. AI governance is still developing, with unclear responsibilities and limited inter-ministerial coordination. Existing laws lack specific AI regulations. AI-focused training and internet access in schools remain limited. Limited broadband penetration hinders widespread AI adoption.
Despite these challenges, Cambodia is making strides in digitalisation through initiatives like the Cambodia Digital Economy Policy and Skill Development Fund.
The workshop emphasised the need for further development in AI-related policies, infrastructure, and workforce training to ensure the ethical and responsible adoption of AI in Cambodia.
