Duration: 1 hour
On Wednesday, 26 June, 2024, Agribusiness Committee Chairman Mr. Eugene Krammwinkel led the EuroCham team for a courtesy visit with H.E. Mr. Prak David, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) to discuss the six Agribusiness policy recommendations found in the 2024 White Book.
H.E. Mr. Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State at MAFF in charge of establishing Modern Agriculture Cooperatives in Cambodia, expressed his intention to establish partnerships and potentially organise workshops for farmers and private sector actors to raise awareness and share knowledge within the industry.
Building upon the previous meeting with Minister H.E. Mr. Dith Tina regarding the Working Group on Pepper, Mr. Christoph Janensch, GIZ Business Scout for Development at EuroCham & German Business Cambodia (GBC), presented updated recommendations to reduce the increasing pesticide contamination of Cambodian pepper.
These recommendations included improving awareness among farmers regarding pesticide usage, enhancing capacity building at the farm level regarding chemical inputs, and making policy adjustments to regulate the agrochemical and pesticide trade.
As a way forward, both sides will review practical approaches aimed at ensuring economic efficiency and high profitability for all stakeholders, particularly farmers, modern farming communities, and consumers.
